Hawaii: Part 3

After a couple of days in Kona, we flew to Oahu. We stayed in a hotel in Waikiki. It was more "touristy" then we would have liked, but it was nice being able to walk everywhere. There were a lot of shops and a couple of malls that we were able to go to.

We had a beautiful view from our hotel room! One night we went out to the balcony and had a perfect view of a firework show!

We were able to hit up a few beaches. First we went to Waikiki Beach.
Another day we went to the North Shore.

While we were swimming, we came across some small jellyfish called Man of War. They are small, but have a powerful sting. Luckily none of us were stung!

We also hit up the market quite a few times to look around. There was a guy in the market we saw doing some wood carvings. Tyler turned to me and said "that guy is Tongan." (He served in a Tongan ward on his mission). We went over and talked to the guy and he was amazed that Ty knew he was Tongan. He actually served his mission in Ogden and was in Hawaii going to school. We bought one of his wood carvings and carved our names on the back....he held the wood between his feet while he carved...it was neat to watch!

We were also able to go to Pearl Harbor.

You can actually see oil still slowly leaking up to the surface of the water.
They call them "Black Tears."

We not only celebrated my birthday in Hawaii, but we celebrated Tyler's as well! We went to a little beachside cafe and had drinks while we listened to music and looked out over the ocean.
We also walked around the mall, ate sushi, and walked along the beach. For dessert, we met up with Tyler's family at a crepe place and had crepes.

Our last day in Hawaii, we walked to a Hilton Resort in Waikiki so we could see the penguins.
It was so fun watching the penguins swim around! There were also some turtles in there too swimming and climbing around.

And of course I had to get one of these before we left...
This is an acai bowl and they are DELICIOUS! One of my favorite things I ate in Hawaii! We had such a great time and hope we can go back one day!
