Music Workshop

I just signed up for an INCREDIBLE workshop in August. It's given by Jenny Phillips (and LDS artist) and Tyler Castleton (who arranges and composes LDS music). It's a workshop for people who are wanting to get into LDS music....which is ME! Hurray! They have a bunch of different classes on voice techniques, writing music, companies to know, etc.

And I'm paying extra to enter their competition. I will have a 30 minute recording session with Tyler Castleton in August. I record a song (they pick the song...everyone records the same one) and they give me a CD of it. Then they pick the top 10 people to do a choir song on her 2010 CD and then the WINNER gets to record a song on the CD and gets $250. Out of 200 people entering...I would be VERY surprised if I won. But it's worth a shot and I'll get to meet Tyler Castleton which would be way awesome!

They also have a songwriting class and you can send in a song you've written and it gets critiqued by Tyler. That song gets entered in a contest and the winner gets their song arranged by Tyler. I have one song written that I am going to send in. But I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks tweeking it so I can get it as good as I can before I send it in. So I am posting the lyrics to the songs. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read through it and give me feedback! Lyrics you like, lyrics you maybe don't like as much. (I already have parts that I'm not too fond of, so what you say won't hurt my feelings!) Thanks in advance!!

I'm VERY excited for this opportunity. It will be such a great learning experience!!

Here's the lyrics for my song. It's called He Hears Me

VERSE 1
Feeling lost in the shuffle
Another face in the crowd
I take one more step forward
My heart full of doubt.

I stumble down the path
Searching for my way
Unsure of where to go
I wonder as I pray:

CHORUS
Does he know me?
Does he hear my cry?
Does he know my heart
is aching inside?

Does he know my name?
And hear my simple plea?
Does he know me?

VERSE 2
Pulled so many directions
I try to push my way through
It's so hard to remember
That His love I once knew

I'm so tired and worn
Without the strength I need
I fall to the ground
And silently I plead

CHORUS
Does he know me?
Does he hear my cry?
Does he know my heart
is aching inside?

Does he know my name?
And hear my simple plea?
Does he know me?

BRIDGE
With my head bowed, I listen
to the spirit's whisperings.

The peace I feel
Tells me

CHORUS
That he knows me
He knows hears my cry
He knows my heart
is aching inside.

He knows my name
And he hears my simple plea.
Yes, he knows me.

1 Question: Are you trying to make the 1st and 2 verses have the same meter so it is the same melody, but different words for each verse? The first half of the 1 and 2 verses matched meters (7776), but the second halves seemed to be oppostites (6565 and 5656). I don't know if that makes sense??? Just wondering if you want them to match?

what is this 7776, 6565, number stuff? since when did my sisters become more musically talented than me?? just kidding

jackie---great opportunity, glad you are taking it!! I love the lyrics to the chorus. I'll think about the versus and let you know if I have any suggestions.

Jamie--I finally figured out what you were saying. Haha, where did you learn this stuff? Maybe YOU need to be writing lyrics for me :)Even though they are different meters, I made it work with the music so that's okay.

Sharon--thanks! I like the lyrics to the chorus as well. The verses on the other hand...I'm not in love with those :) So if you do have suggestions, I would like to hear them!

I think that in the fist verse the very last line should be changed to something. I don't like defeated I say. If I think of anything I'll let you know
